With a body in red meranti, the obvious main feature is the 'Bargello' patterned lid. To create the effect, thin strips of various woods of varying width are first laminated together and then cross cut and offset to create the staggered wave pattern.

Naturally, an elegant wooden box is the sum of its parts and, we believe, a key feature is the finish. Now it's a matter of personal choice and opinion whether a lacquered French polish type look is preferable to a more natural finish; at BespokeCraft we tend towards the natural look but strive to achieve that silk feel to the wood.

Oak Box

Hidden hinge box with 2 shallow sliding trays suitable for, say, cufflinks. Internal base lined with a pseudo velvet or real leather.

Laser Engraving

For that completely unique and personal gift add handcarved letters and/or laser engraved pictures and text. A loose rule-of-thumb is that whatever a standard black 'n' white laser printer can print on paper a laser engraver can engrave on wood. Line art and text work particularly well. Colour and grain of wood effect the final result.

Oak Treasure

Treasure box styles can be crafted in sizes to suit. To the left we have medium size boxes with the handmade hinges set over the lid (see below). The hinges can also be set under the lid. With the hinges set under the lid the full beauty and grain pattern of the lid is exposed albeit at the expense of some internal height. The internal base is lined with velvet or real leather. These medium size boxes do not have a sliding tray.

This style of box has clean lines. Dovetail joints make for very strong construction. Shown crafted from 20mm thick oak.

Oak Treasure - Deep - External Hinges

A deeper version of the oak treasure style of box; possibly for all those extra jewels and other personal treasures. Shown with 2 sliding trays and black velvet.

Oak Treasure - Deep - Under Lid Hinges

A variant of the deep oak treasure box where the handcrafted hinges are set under the lid exposing the full grain pattern of the lid. A slight reduction in sliding tray height results. The hinges are external on the rear. Shown with 2 sliding trays and black velvet lining.

Oak Treasure - Distressed

In comparison with the Yew Treasure box, with this style of box the wooden hinge is placed under the lid giving a different focus. Internal base lined with real leather or velvet. Shown with the external 'distressing' of the oak and internal compartment divider.

Box with Clasp

An unusual piece where one of the handcrafted wooden hinges flows from the rear over the lid to the front where it forms a clasp.

Yin and Yang

Original and tailored designs. Here a design based loosely on the traditional symbol of the yin and yang concepts is combined with bold external hinges to create an unusual gift box. In red meranti wood.

Circles

Double Layer Cufflink Box

A versatile box shown adapted for a selection of cufflinks. Two sliding removable trays fitted with optional (removable) partitions coupled with a plain space beneath provide a jewellery solution. Shown with: a plain lid; optional inlay; and hand-engraved lettering making for a very personal gift. Laser engraving also available. Sized to suit.

Larger Boxes

Sometimes a larger box is just what's required be it for that special purpose or just because. Our aim is to translate your requirements into a functional work of art. Internal base lined with real leather or pseudo velvet as required.

With Spots

A large jewellery style box, fitted with one or 2 internal sliding trays and lined with a pseudo velvet, adorned with circular inserts. The circles can of course be of many sizes and colours. In this example a line of circles waves itself around the box. Complimentary circles on the lid and circular handles finish the effect. Large wooden hinges at rear.

Gentleman's Game Box

Lined internally, top and bottom, with real leather and crafted from meranti hardwood, this stylish box mounts a highly detailed hand-carved feather of a game bird.
